William Kentridge: Prints and Posters Catalogue Raisonné
William Kentridge, an internationally renowned South African artist, has created powerful, meaningful and visually intriguing works across a variety of media over the past five decades. Well-known for his charcoal animations, sculptures, drawings and theatre, this publication takes a closer look at his relationship with printmaking and poster design. Warren Siebrits, a South African art authority, has spent the last three years compiling a five-volume catalogue raisonné of Kentridge's prints and posters. Volume 1.1 and 1.2 focuses on prints and graphics from 1974 to 1990, and covers numerous techniques such as linocut, etching and monotype printing. Reversing the typical printmaking process, Kentridge's work in this realm has been informed by his painting and drawing ventures. This in-depth look at Kentridge as primarily a printmaker is essential for a broad understanding of his significant œuvre.
